When vehicle shopping, do you find yourself returning to your handheld device or driving to that lot full of inventory?  Do you call your best friend for advice or maybe ask Mom and Dad?  Over time, either you or those people you rely on for advice have found someplace and someone you trust and that’s where you’ll head.  With prices on the rise, buying power equipment should be the same process – find folks you trust, people that you can relate to, and with any luck they’ll also have that full showroom of inventory. 

My advice – find a retailer who has in-house Service & Sales. Service that starts with knowledgeable people who can teach you about the features of your new equipment. Service that can complete your warranty registration and warranty repairs on-site. Do I Need Electric or Gas Power Equipment?

So, you’ve found the place, now let’s figure out the next step, Electric or Gas?  The EV-power equipment available today is a great option for most homeowners and there are even options for contractor and commercial uses. 

The benefits of electric-powered equipment include:

• Noise reduction: for the most part the EV options are quieter, much quieter, you can toss those earmuffs on the shelf. 
• Zero emissions: your lungs will thank you. 
• Performance: if you have not tried EV-power equipment, treat yourself to smooth operation with more torque than you’ve most likely experienced with gas-powered equipment.
• Flexibility: buying a series of EV-powered equipment with just a couple batteries will offer most homeowners years of trouble-free use and enough “fuel” to outlast your arms and shoulders. Buying a series that uses the same battery, keeps your charging area organized and can reduce the cost when you buy that next piece of equipment.

With gasoline-powered equipment – there are many options, at many price points. Typically, with power equipment, the price can reflect quality.  The wildcard with gasoline-powered equipment today is fuel.  Most power equipment is used seasonally and sits idle for much of the year.  The downtime and lack of use creates problems in the fuel system, especially with ethanol fuels purchased out of the pump at the gas station.

The best advice is to buy good fuel for your power equipment!  We find that 90% of the service issues we see in our service shop are poor fuel quality related.  So, whether it’s a chainsaw, leaf blower, string trimmer, or hedge trimmer, find the piece that fits you best, and be sure to get good fuel!
